More Independents Open
The first quarter of 2017 saw more independents opening retail outlets whilst chain retailers experienced a decline. Independents account for 65% of all retailing. Their success is helped by their propensity to change, shorter leases and providing a personal service. For now it’s a good news story and one we should celebrate and support.
Ikea for Rent?
Swedish furniture giant IKEA has revealed it is considering the idea of leasing furniture whereby customers can rent products for a period of time and then give them back. It is currently trialling the concept in Finland.
Discount home retailer Wilko has confirmed that over 1000 employees are to be made redundant. This follows from its 80% drop in pre-tax profits earlier this year.
Brighthouse agree redress scheme

Black Friday (24th November) and Cyber Monday on the following Monday have enjoyed something of a successful import from the U.S. Eagle eyed customers will be searching for that extra discounted Christmas gift or fashion items or perhaps extra seating or bedding to accommodate friends and family over the festive season. How successful will these events be? Will they be less popular as people feel the squeeze or will they spend throwing caution to the wind? Time will tell----watch this space!
